Qatar Charity opens health center in Somalia

Qatar Charity opens health center in SomaliaQatar Charity (QC) has opened a health center in Bosaso, a city in Puntland State of Somalia. The facility is expected to benefit more than 10,000 underprivileged people in the area and other neighboring areas. The center consists of many departments like reproductive health, medical examination, emergency, vaccination, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and service facilities. The health services provided by the center will contribute to improving the health standard, reducing the mortality rates of pregnant women and children under the age of five, and lowering the rate of infectious and endemic diseases.Sayeed Mohamed Warabi, Undersecretary of the Puntland Ministry of Health in the Sharq Governorate, said that Qatar Charity is actively contributing to the health sector in Somalia in general, especially in Puntland State, where many health centers were built in the state’s different cities, which contributed to delivering health services to those most in need in villages and remote areas. Mr. Abdul Ghani Ahmed Ismail, Mayor of Bosaso, thanked the benefactors of Qatar and Qatar Charity for implementing this project, indicating that this area needed such a project, as the nearest health center is 5 kilometers away. The opening of the health center comes at a time when the health sector of Somalia was affected by drought. This situation indicates the great importance of inaugurating the center at this time.It is worth mentioning that last year, Qatar Charity built five health centers in Puntland State, Galmudug State, South West State of Somalia, and Banadir region. Currently, 5 health centers and 9 childbirth and maternity units are under construction. These health projects come under the agreement signed by Qatar Charity and Somalia’s Ministry of Health and Social Care, aiming to ensure the effective participation of Qatar Charity in the country’s health projects.
